Current Affairs News - Terror on Easter as multiple blasts happens in Sri Lanka

What started as a regular Easter Sunday morning for Sri Lankas took an unexpected turn. At least 156 people is dead so far, including 35 foreigners and 500 others are badly injured as string of attacks targeting hotels and churches in Sri Lanka were carried out. At least 8 blasts took place in 3 different cities of Sri Lanka: Colombo, Batticaloa and Negombo. 3 hotels - The Cinnamon Grand, Shangri-La and Kingsbury Hotel were attacked and 1 church - St. Anthony was attacked in the capital city Colombo, with at least 45 dead. Another 65 was killed in an attack on a church in Negombo, while another 25 killed at a church in the town of Batticaloa.

Police and security services immediately rushed to all affected area and sealed off the churches and hotel. All hospitals and its crew are also prepared to accommodate all the wounded victims. The government of Sri Lanka had declared a curfew and had blocked access to major social and messaging sites, to prevent further attacks from happening. Law enforcement and authorities had also tightened their security across the country. For now, the government is still hunting down the suspects behind these attacks.

Many believed the explosions to be an coordinated attack, carried out by religious extremists on Christians and Catholic celebrating the event of Easter Day. Today is the day where Christians celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. However authorities had urged the public to not speculate to prevent any further conflict. Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, the archbishop of Colombo, urged the public to remain calm and asked authorities to bring those responsible for the attacks before the law. 


Sri Lanka's Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe had condemned the blast and had been calling all Sri Lankas to stay strong and united. Other world leaders such as the British PM, India's PM and the Pakistan PM  had also shown their support to the Sri Lankans. We as the public should follow the advices of these world leaders; to be strong and united instead of reacting with anger or creating speculations. We shall not let hate take over love.
